V25-1507 : CORTON SEWAGE ISSUE
The report of the Chief Executive was considered as a matter of urgency, under the statutory provision accorded to the Chairman, as it was felt that an appropriate course of action needed to be in place in the event of any application from Anglian Water for a Sewage Treatment Works at Corton being received. The report included the Chief Executive's letter to the Secretary of SINBY (Sewage in Nobody's Back Yard) in response to an invitation to members to attend a presentation on the issues. In view of the Nolan Report on Standards of Conduct in Local Government, the Chief Executive's advice had been not to attend from the potential 'lobbying' aspect. However, he added that the Sub- Committee may feel a presentation from SINBY on the same evening as an applicant's presentation when received for consideration may be a more appropriate course of action. Members were further advised that no application was likely before the next, and final meeting of the existing Rural Planning Sub-Committee. Therefore it was considered more appropriate that the issue be dealt with when the new Development Control Sub-Committee met for the first time in May 1998. Members felt this a more appropriate course of action, and also that any public representations on this or similar contentious issues should come initially from the relevant Parish Council. RESOLVED
That the Corton Sewage issue be deferred for consideration by the new Development Control Committee at its first meeting following the May elections. PLANNING APPLICATIONS
