V25-150 : NATIONAL BIKE WEEK 1997

The Committee were informed that as part of National Bike Week on Sunday, 8 June 1997, a sponsored ride was being organised to raise awareness of cycling in the Beccles area. A section of road between Ringsfield and Beccles Sports Centre was to be closed off to motorised traffic to allow for the safe passage of cyclists of all ages.

The organisers had asked the Council to support the event by member and officer participation in the bike ride. The Director of Community Services also informed the meeting of a second initiative from the Waveney Cycling Campaign, and another ride to start from the Town Hall, Lowestoft at 7.30 pm on 10 June 1996.

RESOLVED

1. That members and officers be authorised to attend the sponsored bike rides at Beccles on Sunday, 8 June 1997 and at Lowestoft on Tuesday 10 June 1997.

2. That the Director of Community Services liaise with the organisers of the Beccles event to find a suitable static cycling activity for the Council to provide and run on the day.
