V25-146 : CLIFTON ROAD CAR PARK
The Committee were informed that a petition had been received signed by 21 residents of Clifton Road and Union Place requesting that a review of the parking facilities in the Clifton Road area and the security of the Clifton Road car park. The petition followed correspondence between the Chief Executive and a resident of the area who had two cars vandalised whilst parked in Clifton Road car park. The complainant suggested that one way of overcoming the problems would be a residents parking scheme. However, without the scheme being included in a programme and money committed, it was not possible to give a definite start date for this initiative. Eight of the 20 signatories to the petition had also had their cars vandalised and a request had been made for the Council to consider installing a CCTV camera to cover the Clifton Road car park. The Chief Executive considered that little could be done on a practical basis other than to press ahead with the initiative included in the SRB bid as early as possible. One of the aspirations of the SRB bid was to look at residents parking throughout the whole of the Kirkley area but there was no definite date to commence assessing the level of demand or where residents parking would be most appropriately located. The installation of a camera at this location was not included in the CCTV bid and it would therefore be expensive at this time. In addition redevelopment of this site was envisaged as part of the regeneration initiative and it was felt more appropriate for the matter of CCTV to be addressed as part of that. RESOLVED
That the Chief Executive respond to the complainant expressing regret that further damage has been suffered, explaining that any further action at this time cannot be taken, for reasons as outlined.
