V25-1361 : NATIONAL TRAINING ORGANISATION FOR HOUSING

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services outlined a proposal to establish a National Training Organisation (NTO) for Housing, which was being led by the Local Government Association (LGA). This was in line with the policy of the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) to establish a NTO in each sector to replace the existing patchwork of industry training organisations and lead bodies.

In each of the first three years an annual sum of up to £30,000 would potentially be required to from member authorities, as there was no provision in the LGA's budget for this expenditure. In order to demonstrate to DfEE that the NTO proposals was financially viable, authorities were asked to agree in principle a sum of up to £500 towards the costs of operation.

RESOLVED

That £500 be allocated to the establishment of a National Training Organisation for the next three years, to be met from existing budgets.
