V25-1291 : A12 HOPTON ROUNDABOUT

The report of the Director of Community Services outlined the published proposals for a new roundabout on the A12 dual carriageway at Station Road, Hopton. The Highways Agency invited comments from local organisations by 23 January 1998 prior to the publishing of draft orders and a local exhibition.

The Director felt that given the very poor accident record at this junction, the improvement was long overdue. Whilst there would be some inconvenience for people using Jay Lane, this was not unacceptable. The closure of the gap at Hall Road would cause more inconvenience particularly for those who wish to turn south from Hall Road. It was however understood that the roundabout at the northern end of the dual carriageway was also imminent.

In view of strong views expressed by Lound Parish Council, members were concerned that the Council would be seen as not supporting these views. The Chief Executive stressed that no adverse comments were being raised at this stage only. The scheme needed to progress to the draft order stage, and any pedestrian, cycling and public transport queries could be raised after that.

RESOLVED

That no adverse comment be raised at this stage and the Highway Agency be encouraged to move to the draft order/public exhibition stage.
