Application for change of use from retail to educational establishment.

The Director of Planning and Building Control reported that the above application was part of the SRB project requiring more accessible location of training facilities. The long term vision was to encourage shopping back to the area, however there was a need for this unit in the short term as local people tended not to travel to Lowestoft College.

The unit would provide training mainly in woodcraft, painting and decorating and would employ three full time staff. No more than 20 people would be on the premises at one time, and most of those would arrive on foot. The Director recommended approval for five years.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W16643/1, temporary for five years. (Councillor van Pelt declared an interest in the above item and left the room during the debate).
