V25-1216 : W8102/24 - KIRKLEY HIGH SCHOOL, KIRKLEY RUN, LOWESTOFT
Application for construction of gymnastics hall.
The Director of Planning and Building Control reported that this facility was very much to be welcomed, although the scale and location of the proposed building would seriously affect the amenity of gardens and outlook from housing in Kirkley Run and Birds Lane, and objections had been received. The application had been deferred at the last meeting of the Sub-Committee to enable a less intrusive location to be investigated, but given the scale of the building little space was available for manoeuvring on the given site. Members echoed the Director's sentiments that the facility was undoubtably needed, but given the restrictions of the available site and possible extra traffic on an already hazardous Kirkley Run, were minded to refuse the application. The Director of Community Services, however, advised that there were no valid highway reasons. Members were aware of the perceived haste in view of a lottery application, but felt that a more appropriate alternative site could be sought by officers in liaison with the Gymnastic Club. RESOLVED
That planning permission be refused to application W8102/24.
(Councillors Bellham and Stewart declared an interest in the above item and left the room during the debate).
