Planning and Transportation - 03/12/97

V25-1209 : A/W832 - 3 LONDON ROAD, PAKEFIELD

The Director of Planning and Building Control reported that a retrospective application for advertisement consent for a free standing illuminated double sided advertisement sign at 3 London Road, Pakefield was refused at minute V24-477/11. It was considered that the sign constituted a distraction to drivers and other road users.

The applicant subsequently appealed to the Department of the Environment and Transport which, although granting permission on appeal, made a stipulation that the sign be moved further away from the roadway. The maximum distance from the shopfront to the edge of the sign nearest the roadway was to be no more than 4.5 metres. The sign, however, remained closer to the road than the approved distance.

It was therefore considered that enforcement action should be taken against the owner to ensure that the sign was placed in its approved position.

RESOLVED

That the Chief Executive be authorised to take all pursuant action against the owner of the free standing illuminated sign at 3 London Road, Pakefield, to ensure that the sign is positioned as authorised.
