V25-1195 : COMMUNICATIONS
(a) Building Control Charter Mark
The Chairman was pleased to inform members of her recent attendance to present the Building Control Division with their Charter Mark for excellence in service delivery. The award was testimony that Waveney was at the forefront in this service. The Chairman congratulated Arthur Abbott and his staff for what had been a fine team performance in gaining the prestigious award.
(b) Councillor Rodgers
The Chairman expressed the Council's most sincere condolences to Councillor Rodgers for the sad loss of her son Russell Potter in a recent road accident. The thoughts and prayers of all members and officers were with her at this tragic time.
(c) Bob Spalding
The Chairman also expressed the Council's condolences at the sad death of former World Powerboat Racing Champion Bob Spalding at the early age of 56. Mr. Spalding had thrilled spectators at Oulton Broad in the seventies with teammate the late Tom Percival. Whilst often jetting round the world to compete, they would always return to the roots of the home club to compete whenever their timescale allowed. Bob Spalding's achievements over the years had helped to promote the area, putting Waveney, and Oulton Broad especially, on the map. In later years in retirement after his accident he had been Patron of Lowestoft and Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club.
The Council stood in a minute's silence for both Mr. Potter and Mr. Spalding. (d) Committee Administration Questionnaire
The Chief Executive reminded members that this meeting was the closing date for the return of the questionnaires. He had been disappointed by the poor return. Copies were circulated for any remaining members who wished to do so to hand in at the close of the meeting.
