V25-1169 : HOLIDAY GUIDE 1998 - PROGRESS REPORT
At minute V25-522 this Sub-Committee considered a report on the production and advertising rates for the 1998 edition of the Holiday Guide. Following a review of the production process the preparation of the Guide was brought forward by two months. Graphics Matter had successfully tendered for the Guide for £26,243. The advertising space was limited to that set in the Guide tender specification and had all been sold on a first come first served basis. The Advertising income fell slightly short of the budget income but this arose from changes which had been made since the tender was accepted. The extended period of preparation had ensured that the production schedule had been met, and Graphics Matter would be passing the final film to its printers on 12 November 1997. Delivery of the guides would be made to the Council on 21 November 1997, and a voucher copy would be sent each advertiser. By the start of December all Tourist Information Centres in the country would have received a copy of the Guide together with an order form for their requirements. A press launch had been arranged for 26 November 1997 at the Marina Theatre. Advertising space to promote the Guide had been booked with various publications including the Radio Times, TV Times and News of the World. By using the cost per response analysis from 1997 the publications which gave the best response had been used, and this would ensure that advertising was targeted more accurately Exhibitions had been booked at Lakeside, Milton Keynes, Leeds and Sheffield to promote the area. Copies of the Guide would also be distributed at the Short Breaks exhibitions at Olympia, Wembley and Derby which would be attended by the Objective 5B working group, thereby giving increased marketing exposure.
