V25-1059 : SUFFOLK COAST AND HEATHS PROJECT

The Committee was reminded that at minute V23-409/5, the signing of a "Memorandum of Agreement" between the funding partners for the Suffolk Coast and Healths Project was approved. The Memorandum set out the role, purpose, structure, staffing and funding arrangements for the three year period to March 1999.

The current structure of the Project was instigated in 1992 following a comprehensive review of the management arrangements for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales. Recently the Countryside Commission had published a consultation paper, setting out a number of options to place funding on a firmer basis. As well as seeking positive long term funding arrangements, the Commission was therefore hoping to increase resources.

The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Project had not been immune from cutback in finance, and in recent years the Countryside Commission had to reduce the amount given to the Project. In 1997/98 Waveney's contribution to the project was £6533. The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Partnership had agreed a budget for 1998/99 assuming a 3% increase in local authority contributions.

RESOLVED

That a contribution of £6,625 towards the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Project for 1998/99 be considered in the context of the forward budget.
