V25-1055 : PROPOSED NATURE RESERVE, BIRDS FOLLY, HALESWORTH

REPAIRS TO FORMER RAILWAY BRIDGE

The Committee considered the report of the Director of Planning and Building Control which outlined the situation regarding a historic bridge on the former Southwold-Halesworth Railway route at Birds Folly, Halesworth. Birds Folly was proposed as a Local Nature Reserve in the Local Plan, and works were necessary to the bridge in order to facilitate public access.

The recommended option was for general repairs including repointing and the erection of barriers to prevent people falling. This would bring the bridge up to minimum safety standards required whilst allowing public access to continue, at an estimated cost of £4,600. Members welcomed the initiative, and asked that publicity including an unofficial opening and walk along the footpath be arranged to raise awareness in the project.

RESOLVED

That the works listed as Option C in the report of the Director of Planning and Building Control be supported and authorisation given for the funds to be released from the Local Plans Implementation Budget for the repairs to the former railway bridge at Birds Folly, Halesworth.
