Outline application for construction of pier.

The recommendation of the Director of Planning and Building Control was for approval, as this was an interesting and imaginative proposal involving the rebuilding of the pier together with pavilions.

The Director of Community Services had advised that the extension of the pier could have an effect on coastal erosion and considered that a full environmental impact assessment would be necessary. There were also many other controls and legislation within the jurisdiction of other organisations which would have to be taken into account.

The Town Council also recommended approval, provided that the proposed length of the pier had no detrimental effect on the coastal defence of Southwold.

RESOLVED

That outline planning permission be granted to application W7617/6.
